Bit Map Monogram

GDSN 223

GDSN 224 Final

The objective of the bitmap monogram project was to design a typeface using only the designer’s initials. The challenge required strict adherence to letter anatomy while working within a grid system. Stair-stepping was not allowed, and the grid served as both a tool for proportion and a guide for maintaining a boxy, geometric style.

During the initial development in 223, there was a tension between staying true to typographic anatomy and prioritizing what visually looked more appealing. In that phase, visual preference took precedence. However, upon revisiting the work in 224, it became clear that adjustments were needed to realign the design with proper letterform structure and typographic principles.
